What Jackie Schlegel Told the Texas Senate About Medicaid Fraud and Families Left Behind
Last week I sat in front of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee for an interim hearing on fraud and abuse in our Medicaid healthcare system. There is a growing, serious push to root out the fraud, waste, and abuse that has been draining our healthcare systems for decades. DOGE has made it a centerpiece. Congress is asking questions. Texans for Medical Freedom needs to be part of that conversation and I went to make sure we were. But I didn’t go there just to talk about policy. I went there as a mom to a vaccine injured child.
Behind every misused dollar in these systems is a child and their parent who has spent years fighting to be heard by the very systems their tax dollars are funding. So I asked the committee: Are the billions of dollars we are spending on healthcare actually producing better outcomes for our kids? I believe that answer is no — and this is exactly where medical freedom meets the MAHA movement.
Medical freedom has never just been about the right to say no to a vaccine. It’s about demanding that the people and institutions making decisions about our children’s health are transparent, accountable, and actually focused on real health outcomes.
