Read Before You Sign: Texas Parents Guide to Back-to-School Medical Forms — July 24, 2026
Why Texas Parents Should Read Every Back-to-School Form Before Signing
I signed a lot of paperwork I never read. That was my life as a young mom. Work, school, appointments, practice, dinner, and somewhere in the middle of it another form that needed a signature before we could get out the door. So I signed it. Most of the time I did not read a word of it. If I could go back, I would slow down. I would read the fine print. I would ask what I was agreeing to before I put my name on it.
This session we helped pass SB 12, which strengthened parental notification and consent in Texas schools. A law can require a school to hand you the information. It cannot make you read it. That part is on us. Over the next few weeks we are running our annual Parents Call the Shots campaign — walking through the enrollment packets, medical forms, and consent documents that get signed in a hurry every August. In Texas, parents call the shots. Sometimes we just need the reminder.
